Industry Qualifications
............................................................................................................................................................
Industry qualifications are administered and taught by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). Companies will quite often fund their employees to take certain courses in order to build up their skill sets. Details of the courses currently being run can be seen on our events page here.
According to the CIPR, studying for a professional qualification helps you to;
- Advance your career and increase your confidence at work
- Acquire tools and techniques to improve your decision-making and effectiveness
- Learn alongside your day job and immediately implement what you’ve learnt at work
A number of different qualification types are offered, their suitability determined by your level of experience.
Foundation Award - An introductory option if you are considering PR as a career option and you are a school-leaver, student, or are already working in a different industry and would like to move into public relations.
Advanced Certificate - Intermiedate. Useful if you are a graduate in any subject who would like to go into PR or are in the first few years of your PR career. You will gain a solid grounding in all the key concepts, techniques, theories and skills needed to perform effectively as a PR practitioner.
CIPR Diploma - An advanced option. Will suit you if you have been in the PR trade a while and want to take on a more advanced managerial position. Includes tuition on topics including reputation management, corporate responsibility and stakeholder theory, crisis management and PR planning. An online study option is available.
Internal Communication Certificate - Ideal if you are in the first few years of your internal communication career, are considering a career in internal communication, or are working in a related field (e.g. media relations, event management, CSR or public affairs) and would like to know more about internal communication.
